Using the proper size carton for what you are packing is very important. Here is an idea of what cartons the industry uses and some examples of what might go in them.
CARTON SIZES:
- 1.5 cartons (SMALL) are used for books, magazines and canned goods.
- 3.0 cartons (MEDIUM) are used for lamp shades, linens, tupperware, small tools and garage items.
- 4.5 cartons (LARGE) are used for pots and pans, pillows, blanket and garage items.
- Dishpack cartons are used for china, glassware, lamps and small pictures.
- Mirror cartons are used for mirrors, glass and large pictures.
PACKING:
- Always pad the bottom of each carton with loose paper.
- When packing fragile items, especially in dishpacks, always wrap each item in paper before packing in the carton.
- You can never use too much paper!
- All items must be packed tightly in the carton so they will not shift while the carton is being moved.
Note: By law, movers many not transport hazardous materials such as paints, ammunition, bottled gas or propane, oil, bleach, aerosol cans, lighter fluids and all other flammables and explosives.
- Disassemble any items that will have to taken apart when moved.
- Disconnect all appliances including washer and dryer, prior to your movers arriving.
- Reassemble all items upon destination.
- Connect all appliances upon destination.
- Make sure all boxes are packed properly and taped shut.
- Label all boxes so your movers know the location and destination.
- Do your own packing and unpacking.
